How long have you been working in this industry and how did you get started?
I’ve worked in this industry since 1994. I am fascinated with communication and where the creative arts intersect with commerce. There are a lot of great businesses out there, and I enjoy working with them to create communication that resonates not only with their core values, but also with consumers. It is great to see people embrace a brand and become advocates.
Give us an overview of your career in advertising.
My career in advertising and marketing actually started in college where I worked in the Admissions Department (marketing and advertising the school to prospective students and their parents). I also did some promotional work for a concert pianist who was touring the U.S. with Vladamir Horowitz’s Steinway Grand. After college, I worked for Brandner Communications in Seattle doing promotional marketing for Q-Lube / Minute-Lube. Then, in graduate school, I continued my advertising career at HEILBrice and worked on Ralphs, Food4Less and Diedrich Coffee (along with a few dot.com businesses). In late 2004, I had the opportunity to work on Mazda at Doner Advertising, where I was in charge of the retail strategy in the western US and later managed the account and brand communication for Mazda national. Recently, I learned the strategy and mechanics of direct-response marketing for non-profits at Russ Reid. I am thrilled to be returning to HEILBrice and working alongside Joni, Hal, Jeff and the entire team. There are great things happening here and I am really impressed with the level of work that comes out of HEILBrice – first class all the way.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Strategic thinking that results in ideas. Through research, study, and creative thinking, when a new thought comes to mind that you just know is going to work – and it does – that is very exciting.
What are your hobbies?
I love music and I play the guitar; I have a very eclectic music taste. I like classic cars, especially Corvettes, and I enjoy running, exercising, playing chess, and backgammon. I love my family, and I am very involved in church life as well.
